GENERAL INFORMATION
What is the difference between an Official University Master's Degree and a Continuing Education Master's Degree?
Both official university master's degrees and proprietary programs are advanced training degrees, but they have important differences:
- OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY MASTER'S DEGREE: An official degree with a multidisciplinary or specialized nature, aimed at professional practice or initiation into research tasks. They have full academic effects and, where applicable, qualify for regulated professional activities. They allow access to doctoral studies. Official Master's Degrees are official studies, recognized throughout the European Union, which gives them validity in any of the countries belonging to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Please check our updated offer of Official Master's Degrees.
- CONTINUING EDUCATION MASTER'S DEGREE: Proprietary programs aimed at specialization and professional updating, with excellent theoretical-practical training provided by university professors and professionals of recognized prestige, and diversified external internships in companies and institutions. Proprietary Titles do not have equivalence with official university programs and, due to their characteristics, do not grant access to doctoral studies.
What are the requirements to access an Official Master's Degree?
According to Article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28, which establishes the organization of university education and the quality assurance procedure, the following can access Master's programs as long as they hold:
a. Spanish official university degree in Bachelor's or Master's or equivalent. Individuals holding an official degree in Diplomacy, Technical Architecture, or Technical Engineering can access University Master's programs, with the university being able to require additional training if necessary.
b. Official university degree from another country within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that qualifies for access to Master's studies in the country where it was obtained.
c. Degree according to education systems outside the EHEA without the need for homologation, subject to verification by the University that the degree attests to a level of education equivalent to the corresponding Spanish official university degrees and qualifies for access to postgraduate studies. Access through this route will not imply, under any circumstances, the homologation of the previous degree held by the interested party, nor its recognition for purposes other than pursuing Master's studies.
What types of Official Master's Degrees are offered at UCLM?
We can differentiate between:
o Managed and taught solely by UCLM.
o Interuniversity programs: coordinated by one of the participating universities or other Spanish universities. They have a joint program between two or more universities with a single curriculum. Each participating university offers a specific number of subjects. The corresponding mobility conditions are specified for each Master's program.
o Erasmus Mundus: Master's programs taught by a consortium formed by at least three universities from three different countries, at least one of them being a member of the European Union.
They involve a study period in at least two of the participating universities. These Master's programs have obtained the Erasmus Mundus quality label awarded by the European Commission. Upon completion, students obtain a multiple, double, or joint degree recognized in the countries where the awarding institutions are located.
According to the attained competences:
o Professional Master's Degrees enabling the practice of regulated professional activities in Spain. These Master's Degrees may have specific requirements regarding access and fees.
o Non-professional Master's Degrees: those that do not qualify for access to a regulated profession in Spain.
According to the type of degree obtained:
How long do Official Master's Degrees last?
After the entry into force of Royal Decree 822/2021, Master's degree programs consist of 60, 90, or 120 credits, equivalent to a duration of 1 to 2 academic years. One academic year corresponds to 60 ECTS credits, and 1 ECTS credit corresponds to approximately 25 to 30 hours of work.
Are internships included in Official Master's Degrees?
Internships can be one of the teaching activities in a Master's program. They are mandatory for Master's programs that qualify for regulated professional activities.
In any case, the Master's program's website indicates if internships are included and, if so, their characteristics.
Can a Master's Degree be pursued on a part-time basis?
Yes. To pursue a Master's program on a part-time basis, you must enroll in a minimum of 18 ECTS credits based on the UCLM's Stay Regulations. If you are applying for a scholarship, you must check the enrollment requirements established in the call for each component of the scholarship. If you enroll on a part-time basis, you are only entitled to tuition fee waivers and the minimum variable amount.
If I am interested in an Official Master's Degree, how can I contact the responsible individuals?
In the "General Information" section detailed on the website of each Master's program, the teaching center, coordination team, and contact persons' information is provided. Check the information for each Master's program. If you have administrative inquiries, you can register them through the following CAU (University Assistance Center) web link, where you will need to select the Master's program and the campus of instruction so that the issue can be properly channeled, and you receive a prompt response.
ACCESS AND ADMISSION TO UNIVERSITY MASTER'S PROGRAMS What is the pre-registration deadline for Master's programs?
All master's programs have a single deadline (from March 27th to September 11th, 2023), except for the Master's Degree in Secondary Education and Baccalaureate Teaching, which has two deadlines (from March 27th to July 6th, 2023, in the ordinary call, and from July 28th to September 11th, 2023, in the extraordinary call if there are vacant spots after the July enrollment). Please refer to the information provided for each Master's program.
What requirements must be met to study a university Master's program?
According to Article 18 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28th, which regulates university education, the following individuals may access Master's studies, as long as they hold:
a. Spanish official university degree of Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent. Individuals holding an official degree in Diplomatura, Technical Architecture, or Technical Engineering may access University Master's programs. However, the university, exercising its autonomy, may require additional training if academically necessary.
b. Official university degree from another country in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) that qualifies for access to Master's studies in the country where it was obtained.
c. A degree obtained from educational systems outside the EHEA, subject to verification by the university that the completed degree provides a level of education equivalent to the corresponding Spanish official university degrees and qualifies for access to Master's studies in the country where it was obtained.
In addition, specific access requirements established for each program must be met, which can be consulted in the "ACCESS AND ENROLLMENT" and "ENTRY PROFILE" sections on the website of each Master's program.
Can I apply for pre-registration if I haven't completed my Bachelor's studies?
In general, to access a university Master's program, it is necessary to have an official university degree in Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent. However, the university may establish admission/conditional enrollment procedures for some Master's programs, allowing students to enroll in a Master's program while still having their Final Degree Project (TFG) pending and a maximum of 9 ECTS credits from the degree program that grants them access. Please check the requirements and get informed here.
Can I access a Master’s program from any Bachelor’s degree?
Each Master's program may establish specific access requirements, such as preference for admission from certain degrees, language proficiency, or professional experience, among others. It may also be necessary to take additional training courses depending on the student's previous education.
What are complementary training courses?
Complementary training courses are subjects that may need to be taken to pursue a specific Master's program, depending on the student's previous education. They are leveling courses and, in general, must be completed before starting the Master's program.
When and how do I apply for pre-registration?
The pre-registration, admission, and enrollment dates are detailed in the "Access and Enrollment" section of each Master's program's website. You can access this information through the UCLM study search engine. Once you have completed the pre-registration (exclusively online through the following link), the university will verify if you meet all the requirements for accessing the Master's program and determine whether you need to take complementary training courses after being admitted.
Can I apply for pre-registration in more than one Official Master's program?
Yes, but you must apply individually for each Master's program you are interested in, except for the Secondary Education Master's program, where you can choose up to three specialties in order of preference.
Do I need to confirm the pre-registration application to be admitted to a University Master's program?
Yes, any pre-registration application that has not been confirmed will not be considered in the allocation process of places.
What documentation do I need to submit for pre-registration in the Official Master's program?
The documentation required will be requested by the pre-registration web application once you have submitted your application.
What is the difference between homologation and legalization of degrees?
Homologation and legalization are two different procedures with different legal effects.
Homologation: T
he process by which the Spanish Ministry of Universities equates a degree issued outside of Spain to its corresponding Spanish degree, especially for professional purposes (access the procedure from here).
Legalization:
The process of validating the signatures of the authorities who sign a document, which certifies their authenticity for presentation in a third country. In the case of academic degrees or certifications, legalization generally refers to the recognition of the signature of the educational authority that issues the original document (not the one certifying its translation or copy). No type of legalization is required for documents issued in Member States of the European Union or signatories of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Likewise, documents issued by Switzerland are exempt from legalization due to a bilateral agreement with the European Union. In other cases, documents issued abroad that are intended to be used in these procedures must be duly legalized according to the following conditions (click here for more information).
When do I need to upload the required documents to the document management system for access to the University Master's program?
The documents required for access to University Master's programs can be uploaded to the document management system at any time during the pre-registration period. However, it is advisable to do so at the time of pre-registration to ensure that your application can be reviewed and validated as soon as possible by the UGAC.
Is it necessary to demonstrate a B1 level in a foreign language for all Official Master's programs?
For the academic year 2022/23, the Master's programs that require accreditation of a foreign language proficiency level for admission are as follows:

How are students selected after pre-registration?
The Academic Commission of each Master's program examines the applications, evaluates the required documentation, and applies the selection criteria established to prioritize the applications. Typically, these criteria include the assessment of academic records, additional training, or curriculum vitae. The commission may also conduct personal interviews with candidates if deemed necessary.
What is the equivalence of the grade point average (GPA) from studies conducted abroad in Spain?
Given the importance of the grade point average for the selection of candidates for Master's programs at the university, the Ministry of Universities provides a service to calculate the equivalence of GPAs from university studies conducted outside of Spain. They establish equivalence tables for GPAs of foreign university studies and degrees (Annex II: Tables of Equivalences by Country) to obtain the equivalent GPA on the Spanish grading scale (Scale 0-10).
What happens if I haven't pre-registered for a Master's program within the deadline but I'm interested in pursuing one?
You should contact the Coordinator of the respective Master's program and, if explicitly authorized and if there are available places, you may enroll following the instructions provided by the Academic Management Unit of the corresponding campus. Admission by the Coordinator is required, provided you meet the requirements and have all the necessary documents for access to Master's programs.
ENROLLMENT AND FEES
What needs to be done before enrolling?
Check if you are eligible for any scholarships, discounts, or fee exemptions and prepare the necessary documents with the required information. If you want to apply for a scholarship from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, you must submit the application within the established period, even if you enroll at a later date.
When will I know if I am admitted to a Master's program?
Once the Coordinator resolves the pre-registration applications, you will receive an email notification at the address you provided in your pre-registration application, informing you of the resolution status, accompanied by the Letter of Admission, if applicable. Later, you will receive another email indicating the deadline to formalize enrollment and the access link to the self-enrollment web application.
What is the deadline and procedure for enrolling in a Master's program?
The enrollment for Official Master's Programs for new students at UCLM is done online from June 20 to September 30, 2023. For the Master's Program in Secondary Education Teaching, the first enrollment period is from July 20 to 26, and the second enrollment period is from September 20 to 26, 2023.
However, once admitted, students will receive an individual notification with the specific deadline for their self-enrollment (consult the instructions for self-enrollment in Master's programs at UCLM).
Enrollment will be formalized by submitting the originals and copies of the documents and certificates attached to your pre-registration application to the corresponding Student Management Unit, before October 31, 2023, to verify the accuracy of the access data. Otherwise, the enrollment will be canceled automatically.
If I have been admitted to a Master's program but cannot complete the self-enrollment, how can I enroll?
In such a case, you should report an incident through the CAU (Academic Management Unit) to the corresponding Campus, which will inform you about the available options to formalize your enrollment.
What is the tuition fee for a Master's program?
The tuition fee may vary depending on certain conditions of the Master's program, such as the level of experimentation, and it is determined by the Regional Government within a range set by the General Conference on University Policy. You can refer to the prices set by the Autonomous Community for the 2021/22 academic year. Additionally, you may be eligible for exemptions or discounts established by regulations, for which you must provide the supporting documentation at the time of enrollment (
(disability, large family, etc.). Please refer to the website of each Master's program for this information.
How do I pay the tuition fee?
You can pay the tuition fee in a single payment or split the amount into monthly installments through direct debit from a bank account. If you have applied for a scholarship from the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MEFP), the tuition fee will remain outstanding until the scholarship is awarded.
Which scholarships can be applied for?
The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training annually publishes the general call for grants for official post-obligatory studies, which includes Official Master's programs. This call establishes the different components and amounts you can receive, as well as the academic and economic requirements necessary to obtain these scholarships. You can consult the call for these grants on the following link. We also recommend checking the grants announced by the autonomous community and the university itself. You can consult the various grant calls through the following link.
What is the enrollment deadline for the 2nd year of a Master's program?
Self-enrollment online will take place from July 19 to September 30, 2023.
What requirement must I meet to continue with the chosen Master's program in the following academic year?
To re-enroll in the same Master's program, you must pass at least one course.
