Students of 1st year of ESO of the public school La Paz, of Albacete, have visited the Regional Center for Biomedical Research (CRIB) of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) to participate in a workshop in which they learned about the scientific work carried out in the fight against cancer.. CRIB researcher Eva Galán was in charge of receiving the group. This activity is part of the ADA Program, promoted by the Institute for Women and Equal Opportunities in order to awaken scientific vocations among the youngest.
"A unique experience" is what the UCLM researcher Eva Galán proposed to the students of 1st ESO of the La Paz school, through a practical workshop in which the young people could visualize and analyze real tissue samples from patients with ovarian and breast cancer, and thus know the technology that allows you to work in your studio.
As Eva Galán points out, studying how cancer cells communicate with the normal cells that surround them is vital to reach the cure of this disease, as well as evaluating whether treatments interrupt those communications and checking their clinical effectiveness, which are some of the objectives of the Translational Oncology Laboratory of the CRIB, whose works the students knew.
This training and fun activity is part of the ADA Program, conceived by the Institute for Women and Equal Opportunities to awaken the interest in research of the youngest and contribute to a greater presence of women in technological careers.
